Analysis:

I find this poster particularly striking, although there is a lack of colour this poster is still effective in reaching its target audience which is teenagers, as it is clearly based around prom which is something many teenagers experience. Likewise our film "deranged" is about a child and therefore we are trying to convey this in the poster. The lack of color signifies that this is a dark film and is typical of a horror film poster as the same atmosphere comes across as it would do in the film. Also the darkness of the poster makes the red of the title seem more vivid and more likely to grab the audiences attention. The Red is also a typical colour, used for horror films as it connotes blood and danger. It is a colour that we are likely to use in our poster for the same reasons, but maybe not as bright as this colour this is because our film is based around a child and is not strictly about blood and gore, i don't think people would appreciate the poster if it was indicating the harming of children. clearly in this poster the main focus is the image and although the title stands out it is a smaller size so that the focus is not completely taken away from the actual image.

Much of the poster is taken up with the characters mouth obviously screaming this conveys a sense of fear and violence. Its almost as if the viewer could imagine the scream the character would be making which stimulates the audiences senses. allowing them to feel the certain fear of the character. It also makes the audience wonder what the victim is screaming about what has caused this fear, giving the viewer some curiosity about the film.
The prop in the image relates to the title and theme of the film, the tiara has associations with prom, it being a special occasion. The tiara tilted over the eye of the character has connotations of the night not going as planned and the event has been disturbed, the tiara covering the eye stop us from relating to the character completely and again focuses us on the expression that she is creating with her mouth. She looks a mess with her hair strewn across her face, not what you would expect from someone attending prom.
The poster also seems to look scratched, this is clearly done on purpose to connote  the prom being ruined, and goes against all the stereotypical prom movie posters that are all glossy and look elegant to convey the essence of a real prom, this also indicates to the audience that this is not your typical chick flick prom movie and it is of a different genre, horror.

Film Trailer: Editing progress

The end of term is tomorrow and one of our deadlines was to be close to finishing the editing of the film trailer so that next term we could focus mostly on the print products, such as the magazine front cover and the poster, i have already made a start on the poster, but i am likely to produce some more drafts next term after i have done some more research into the print products over the holidays, which is what I'm planning to do.

In terms of editing we have been trying to find time to edit it as there is not enough time in lessons, therefore Manny and me have been arranging to come in and do editing during lunchtime and free periods so that we can make progress before Friday, we thought that it would be achievable to meet this deadline tomorrow but now i am apprehensive as to whether that is going to happen. Some of our time has been taken up because the program with editing on keeps crashing and freezing and therefore it takes time to make progress in the editing , but yesterday Manny was advised to try it on another computer as this may be the problem, so today Manny has tried editing on a different computer and for now it seems to be working. The titles and music are the things that need to be added to the trailer now and then it is just a matter of creating atmosphere and maintaining the pace and rhythm so it seems more speedy towards the end of the trailer to create tension and a sense of panic and making sure the audience know what the film is actually about, or at least entertain them enough to want to see the film and find out fully what it is about. I still think completing the editing is achievable if no more problems arise. This is something that we didn't encounter as much last year and therefore did not plan for this to happen this is possibly the reason why we seem to be short of time.

Film Trailer; Titles

Here are the titles i have been working on, i have been trying to think of a tagline for the film both to put on the poster and possibly to use in the trailer ... I was thinking about using "innocence never lasts forever" as it links in with the child theme as children have associations with the word innocence and sort of explains the plot of the film , it hints at something turning evil or nasty.   I think this year we have been a bit more creative with the titles as last year we made the titles on the adobe premiere pro program  and did not edit them that much apart from how they moved on the screen.

The reason i have made the titles red as opposed to the silver title is because i didn't want them seem like they are of the same importance as the main title they are just leading up to it. As i have said previously it is also so the main title stands out and they will know it is the main title. They are also the colour red to symbolize evil, i don't think any other colour would have had the same connotations or would appropriate for the content of this film. the black, dark background has connotations of the darkness surrounding the characters. Mr Earl said that the faded red didn't look like an obvious choice for a horror as the obviously a lot of horror's use the colour red. This is why we thought we could still get away with using the red without it looking too common as there has to be some difference between all the other horror film titles. I thought I would include the tagline in the trailer as it links to the plot and if the audience see a poster or magazine cover with the tagline on it they would associate it with the film.

I chose the font by going through various types of fonts on the programme, adobe photoshop and tried different ones and assesed whether they would suit the genre of the film. I tried this font and thought it looked quite aged and we wanted to create a quite old feel to our trailer as most horror films do, not so it looks ancient but so it looks like it has happened in the past. The flashback at the start of the trailer will definitely add to the sense of oldness which is reflected in the font. I also don't think the font - perpetua titling MT - looks that old and the colour red gives it a modern edge signifying the youth of the child.

Film Trailer : Movie Posters

Here is an example of a movie poster from the horror genre. it consists of a close up image of the main character, the famous actors/ actresses that are in the movie and a tag line " Adapt or Die" The colour of the title is white contrasting with the other darker and dirtier colours, the white as connotations of purity and innocence, but maybe this purity has been tarnished somehow and this is what the greys and browns signify.  The blue eyes also stand out focusing the audiences attention onto them so they are looking at them and instantly connect with this character. At the bottom of the poster the director is mentioned, as well as the production company as well as people who were involved in the making of the film.

This compared to the draft of our poster idea is more complex and has shown me that i need to add a tag line and production company and the small writing at the bottom of the poster, and possibly the date on which it comes out. i have notices a lot of posters have these conventions and they need to be added to our poster in order for it to look more complete. I am hoping to upload a few more drafts this week, and try out different images as well. Here is another horror trailer with the conventions to show the similarity:

Film Trailer: Editing Progress

Today and Tuesday Manny has been off, therefore i tried to do some editing to the trailer. I started to add in the new footage that Manny had filmed in the previous week and tried to edit that, but i was confused by some of the shots and decided that i would have to discuss this with Manny when she gets back, Because of this i just placed some of the titles into the trailer and added the transitions such as cross fades. It is not very likely that we will be  posting a finished rough cut up tomorrow, but we will try to post what we have done so far on the blog. We encountered a few problems when we were editing as some of the shots were a different file type and therefore they had to be converted, and Manny noticed when the conversion was done that some of the editing that she had done had disappeared and therefore she was going to try and re do it. This would ineviatably take time. We would rather take a long time and get it right than rush it and make mistakes. This why the process is going to take longer than it did in the foundation portfolio because we are editing it more thourougly.

Also in the lesson today i started to work on the poster that we have to produce. I used photoshop to do this. This is the progress i have made:

I will be continuing to edit this. I will also be trying to make more of the titles that will appear in the trailer, i am in the process of planning what each title is going to say, so that the viewer will be anticipating what is going to happen in the film. So far i have made the titles for the character- Josh Sangha and "he can't escape" but i am thinking this might be a bit to cliche and may end up changing it.
