Research: Analysis of "whisper" trailer

mise en scene - the opening of the trailer shows an establishing shot of the ground covered in snow obviously in winter time. The snow is used to represent the coldness and bitterness of this plot based around this child called David who gets abducted. the white snow connotes innocence of children. It also connotes isolation and makes the area appear more desolate and bleak fitting in with the themes of the plot. There are also many shadows and lots of dark lighting to create a sinister atmosphere and again this is a common convention for horror films. This trailer consists of a very swift montage of clips from the film this is to help people understand the plot or at least grasp the genre and themes of the film. there are shots containing ice breaking which suggests drowning, this would unsettle the audience. The ice breaking could have connotations of the family breaking apart. There is also a wolf seen pouncing in one of the clips maybe making the audience jump and startling them. its also something you would not expect to see this could represent that this movie is unpredictable. There is also fire in some of the clips this represents evil and the devil making it clear that this is about things that are not from this world.

Sound - the trailer starts off with someone singing and it sounds very eerie and unsettling then there is a burst of dramatic music created by loud drums, this shocks the audience and puts them on edge. For the rest of the trailer the music is just as dramatic implying that the whole movie is action packed and will thrill the audience. There is also a voice over used as well as titles breaking up the footage this is to create a narrative so people are aware of the plot. There is a lot of shouting and raised voices included in the clips shown this is to create the sense of panic and disruption that this family have been a victim of. In juxtoposition to this there are also lots of whispers heard, this is to emphasise the title and to show that somebody else or something else is speaking to them. Having quiet whispers and then loud outbursts creates tension and suspense and also keeps the audience entertained.
