Planning the cast interviews, planning behind the scenes footage.
Planning which days we are going to shoot at each setting.

14/10/2011 – Friday :    continue with planning the set, record commentary of how our planning is
Going so far. Finish planning the props we are going to use in the shots.

15/10/2011 – 16/10/2011
(Weekend):                    completely finish planning and upload any remaining planning to the blog.
Get photos of setting uploaded to the blog.

17/10/2011 – 21/10/2011: Make final decisions about what is being shot, and how it is being shot.
Give the Actors advanced notice of when they are needed and what they
are doing on each day of filming, give actors the script.
                                                  Practice costume on Actor.
Get Camera and tripod ready for the shoot.

22/10/2011-                        We are going to the forest setting which will be used in the trailer when
the boy is running away from the voices he is hearing and  also hears
the voices in the forest. We will film a variety of shots including close ups,
mid shots, high angle and low angle shots in order to create a sense of
panic. Manny’s cousin will be playing the character of the young boy and
he  will be needed on that day for most of the footage.
Also on this day we will be filming the end of the trailer where the boy
goes back to his foster parents house. The foster parents take the boy to
his room when they shut the door the boy starts to go crazy. This scene
will be filmed in manny’s cousins house as this would look more like a
foster home. We are going to be shooting on this day because this is when
the actor is available as he goes on holiday later in the week. Also it is
the holidays so there is more
time to shoot footage. We will be filming at about 4 or 5 o clock so that it
will be starting to get dark. We want it to look dark as this will connote
evil and mystery. Other trailers we have looked at have done this all of
                                               them
seem to portray a dark atmosphere. Manny will be filming this part in
sunderland as this is where her cousin lives and they can film it in their
                                                house.

Tuesday (25/10/11)  -   Manny will be filming the flashback we are having at the start of the trailer
to show that the parents have died. This is going to be filmed in a room
above the shop that Manny works at. The characters that will be needed on
this date is Manny’s cousin and Manny who will be playing the parent of the
                                           child.
                                           film Behind the scenes footage.
Film interviews of actors and directors, on the shoot.

Saturday 29/10/11 – We are going to film extra footage in the locations that we have chosen to
shoot at. We are going to have shots of the setting to create the right mood
and atmosphere of the film. We are also going to record the voice over as
well that will narrate some of the plot.

31/10/11 – End of term-(Next Half Term) –  Start editing footage, upload to Adobe premiere pro
                                                                                Produce rough cut
Complete editing by end of term

Planning: Comparisons between AS and A2 planning

Last year in AS we planned our shoot by creating a storyboard , we included all the shots that we were originally going to use, although at that point Manny and me were going to shoot all our footage in a point of view shot. We also had a log sheet so that we could organise the props we needed on each day that we were shooting as well as the actors that we were using and it also organised the person who was providing the setting for us to shoot at. But when we shot the first bit of footage and showed sir, he said that we should try to use more of a variety of shots therefore we had to reshoot a lot of our footage in order to meet the criteria. But when we re- shot the footage we did not create a new storyboard as we were short on time and thought we could adapt our old one. We discovered that we could have done more planning in order to make the shoot more successful as we wouldn’t of had to think of how to shoot things on the set as much as we would have been more organised.

This year in A2 I think the planning has been in more depth as this year we have created a production schedule as well as a storyboard which contains all the shots that we need to shoot and also the props that we need. It helps us to organise the actors that we need as we are going to give them a small script so they can prepare themselves. We are also going to test run the costume so that we can correct anything that goes wrong before the shoot. I think we are definitely more prepared than last year. . I also think we have planned better as we have a better understanding of the genre, Horror/Thriller, as we have watched trailers and seen how each film links in with the genre. I have done this by looking at the similarities between each trailer to see how each trailer fits with the genre.

Film planning: Comparisons between AS and A2 research

We have completed a lot of our planning and research now for our final A2 project. There has been a bit of a difference between my planning in AS and in A2 as I have done a lot more at A2 in a shorter amount of time. When I was researching the genres of film I realised that I need to do more research this year as last year I didn’t feel I did enough and therefore didn’t exactly know the codes and conventions of the genre we were doing which is why the genre of our film changed quite a lot. Initially last year we were going to do a detective film but it turned out in the end to be a psychological thriller genre of film. In comparison this year we researched horror movies and I started to focus on horror films that have children as the main characters. We are fairly certain we are going to stick with that genre and not change it this year. This year we researched a specific type of horror film as last year our research was general and non-specific. This is why were unsure of how we could make a detective film.
Also this year we have had to research print products as well where as last year we did not have to do this even though it could have given us a better idea of who the audience was for the film we were making. Researching the magazine covers gave me an idea of how they are constructed so that they attract the appropriate attention of the audience .

Film Trailer: Treatment

Treatment
Beth Graham
Film Trailer- Deranged
Plot/Genre:
Deranged is a typical movie from the horror genre that intends to leave the audience afraid like any other great horror movie would do. The thing that makes it striking to the audience is that a child is the main character and the storyline revolves around him although other films of the horror genre have done this previously, it has been an effective way to unnerve people as quite often I have read that that one of the scariest characters in horror movies are children as they are not naturally portrayed as dark mysterious characters they are more often than not seen as being sweet and innocent.
The story is based around this child, Adam who has lost his parents when he was a baby this will be shown in the trailer by a series of flashbacks shown in black and white to show the difference in time. Later in this boys lifetime he is now living with his grandparents. He leaves his home unnoticed and goes to visit the graveyard where his parents are buried late in the evening he then hears voices in the graveyard, thinks there not real and runs away from the graveyard and ends up getting lost on the way back. He ends up in a forest and hears the voices repeatedly; he is confused and frightened the voices stop  eventually, Adam is tormented but chooses to ignore them and he is found by his grandparents and brought home. Over the next few months the voices come back and adam decides to tell his grandparents what is happening to him but they don’t believe him. The voices start to control him and his actions reflect this, as he has changed and is no longer himself, he turns on his family as he is transfixed with these voices that he can here but no one else does, as his actions change people are beginning to believe him and try to help him but he is already changed and as a result of this goes on to commit crimes of different scales. We have put this plot together based on elements of other horror/Thriller movies such as “the others” and “Orphan” these are our main influences. Although some of the issues with using a child actor for the making of this may prove to be controversial but we thought if other films like this have been successful then it might not be too much of a problem. The audience for this film would be between 12 and 25 year olds as this is the audience that mostly watches the horror genre, the film would be given a 12 or 15 certificate so that the film is opened up to lower age ranges this is because the content will not be that graphic and is suitable for this age range.
How The Trailer Will be Put Together:
The trailer will feature a series of fast paced shots with fade to blacks separating the shots, this is to give the trailer length as well as darken the mood, These fade to blacks may have small bits of writing to help the audience understand what is going on in terms of the plot. There will be quite a few close ups of the child to accentuate that he is the main character. We have also seen on other trailers that right at the end after the main title of the film comes up there is a suprising shot afterwards that the audience will not expect and will jump at. I was thinking of including into this in our trailer as I think it would be effective in creating the tone of the film as well as making the genre audience.
