Mini Trailer Update

I have began editing my mini trailer on Adobe premier pro. I am progressing well but i will probably have to come in after school today and do some editing and also do some in my free periods tomorrow so that i can export it and upload the final mini trailer piece to my blog by the end of tomorrow. I have just began cutting some of the footage as it has some parts of the school and a van in the background that lowers the effect that the trailer is trying to create. i may also have to change some of the colours as the weather looks to bright for the type of genre i am doing and the common convention of this genre is dark colours used to create a mysterious and eerie atmosphere.

Research Task: Analysis of "Orphan" Trailer

Orphan is a Horror/thriller film which was released in 2009. the plot of this film is that a family decide to adopt a child. At first they love this child but later discover that she is not what she appears to be.

The trailer starts off by showing a series of images of things that you would associate with a normal family life for example a family car. This indicates its about the lives of a family as it is the first thing that is seen. The girl "Esther" introduces herself" , the mise en scene implies at this point that she is an innocent girl this is because she is positioned in a classroom which is also something that is associated with childhood. It is clearly set in winter time as snow can be seen in the first shot , this has connotations of the film being cold and that the girl is isolated, this weather is carried on throughout the trailer and suggests that these themes are played throughout the entire film. Also at the end of the trailer fire is shown this has connotations of evil and the devil which is linked to the girls evil nature. The girl is also wearing old fashioned outfits whereas the film is clearly set in modern day by the look of the car and the other children's clothes. This makes her seem out of place and different as if she doesn't belong with the family that she is with.
There is a seen where she has become aggressive inside the cubicle she is kicking and screaming. it looks as if there is someone else within her trying to break free. This is representative of the point in the film where evil is trying to break out and overcome the innocent looking exterior .
This trailer is not a continuing sequence of shots but has titles in between the shots to narrate some of the plot and there is also a voice over in places to create the narrative of the film so that it is clearer for the audience to understand. The pace of the trailer at the beginning is slow and well paced as well as having the titles between the shots this creates a lot tension and suspense. Towards the end of the trailer the pace picks up and screams and voices get louder this thrills the audience more and displays some action. The trailer come to an abrupt end leaving the audience wanting more. The title is also left to the end of the genre so that the audience have to wait this also creates a lot of tension which is common theme of this film. The family now appears to be frantic and doesn't look like the typical family anymore all because of this girl. The mise en scene appears darker creating an eerie atmosphere. At the end there is the sound of a girl singing which sounds very creepy and unnerving, it will freak people out.

Research Task: Analysis of "The Others" Trailer

 

"The others" is a psychological Horror film that was released in 2001. This trailer clearly sets the tone for the audience and  swiftly sets out the genre of the film as in the first few seconds the mise en scene is iconic for this genre. in the first few seconds the inside of a house is shown from various different angles and it is clear to see the dark atmosphere created the ambient sounds and the lighting set it out to look this way so that the audience can definitely sense the eeriness and the isolation of the house. The lack of furniture make it seem unhomely and bare making it seem more creepy. 

The screeching sounds and the children's screams portray to the audience the dread and fear that the movie contains. These screeching sounds make the audience jump as there isn't much music in the background which is making it more eerie.

This trailer sets out the narrative quite clearly, without giving too much of the story away, keeping the audience is suspense. It is obvious that children are being haunted by ghostly figures because of the shots showing curtains opening and the children crying when they are in bed. There is also some dialogue by the main character played by Nicole kidman "my children sometimes have strange ideas, but you mustn't pay any attention. Children will be children." this shows that the film is centered around her children being haunted. The trailer is just shots taken from the movie put together in a way so the audience has some idea of the plot. Between action the shots fade in and out to show the presence of a ghost. The trailer is slow up until the end where it is fast paced and a lot of action is shown. The trailer also has important dialogue from the film edited in such as

"sometimes the world of the dead gets mixed up with the world of the living."
The trailer ends with the title the others in white letters on a black background which also implies the genre to the audience  as it looks ghostly. The title is left until the end as it again creates suspense for the audience, even though the title is mentioned in some of the dialogue, suspense is an obvious theme and the title is fitting in with that theme by being placed at the end.This film is classified as a 12 and therefore appeals to a wide audience this trailer is representative of that as there is not any violence, gore or indecency making it suitable for a lot of people to watch.

Research task: Mini Trailer

Today we began to shoot footage for our mini trailer as we came up with our plan yesterday. Our plan was fairly simple as it is just a mini project. For our final piece we would probably plan in  more detail as we would have more knowledge of what horror trailers include and will be able to incorporate them into our trailer.

Today we started to shoot the footage we decided to do it in a wooded area that in on the school site, we thought this would be appropriate as it gives a shadowy effect to the shots and makes them look dark and mysterious. We know it is important to show this in our trailer because it is a common code of a film from the horror genre and we need the audience to identify what type of film is being shown.

We may choose to add sound effects to the trailer to emphasize some of the sounds used in the actual shot. We would probably add screaming sound effects. We also brought costume and props to use whilst we were shooting this also adds to the scene.

Our practice trailer features a figure with a mask which and a girl screaming as she is walking in the woods. We also going to add in titles so that the whole trailer is approximately 30secs long.  

Planning and filming of Teaser Trailer

Yesterday and today we have planned what we are going to shoot tomorrow for our short 30 second teaser trailer. We are still going ahead with doing the horror genre as we think we can be creative when filming for this type of genre. We have made a plan of what we are going to shoot tomorrow. i will upload this soon.

Tomorrow we will shoot our footage because we have 2 hours in which to do it in. We will then start to edit it on Friday. Next week i will continue to edit it as Manny will not be here. i will also upload it.

during the holidays i will continue to do furtherr research into our chosen genre.

Short Clip of Trailer

This week we are starting to plan for the one minute teaser/trailer we have to create as a practice to see if our ideas work and fit together. We are still in the process of deciding what genre that we want to do for the final piece. We are definitely going to research a lot into the genres that we are interested in and decide on one which we comfortable creating.

I will try to do a lot of research over the next week so that we can plan our 1 minute clip thoroughly and have enough time to film it in the near future.

The one minute clip will give us an idea of the extent to what we can do with the resources we have, and if any mistakes occur we will be aware of them when it comes to creating the final piece for the coursework.

Manny has done some research into film genres and will post it soon. I will do some tonight and over the weekend as i am away for the next 3 days.

We are going to book a camera for next week so we can start filming it. We are planning to plan the trailer today and next Tuesday when we have a lesson together.

We are leaning towards doing a trailer for the horror genre as this allows us to be creative and inventive. I am going to research this genre by watching some films from the horror genre and then looking at what the trailers contain, we either want to do this genre or the psychological thriller genre which is what we did for our AS project so are more familiar with the codes and conventions of that genre.
